How It Works
See what you're made of.
Your scale, your watch, your bloodwork — they aren't useless, but they miss what matters. Three clinical tests in one visit reveal what your body is actually doing.

DEXA Scan
Know your body.
Your scale shows one number. DEXA shows the four that actually drive your health: fat, lean muscle, visceral fat, bone. Finally know what's working, what isn't, and exactly where to put the effort.

VO₂ Max Test
Train smarter. Live longer.
Your smartwatch estimates. We measure. VO₂ Max is the single strongest predictor of how long and how well you'll live. Train against your real number, not a wrist guess, and add years to your life.

RMR Test
Stop guessing. Start knowing.
Online calculators miss your real metabolism by around 20%. We measure it directly from your breath, so every calorie target actually fits the body burning them. Eat for the results you want, not someone else's average.

Lean mass and body fat—measured precisely, not estimated. See how your composition compares to your age group.
Your lean mass acts as a metabolic buffer against visceral fat. The more lean mass you carry, the greater your body's capacity to process glucose—keeping visceral fat in check. Reducing visceral fat remains the goal, but lean mass is your defense.
VO₂ Max is the single strongest predictor of longevity. A 5× mortality gap separates the lowest and highest fitness quartile. Where do you stand?

Common Questions
What's DexaFit's story?
DexaFit started in 2011 with a single goal: bring clinical-grade body composition, cardio fitness, and metabolic testing out of hospitals and into the hands of everyday people. Today DexaFit is a technology available across four continents and 40+ states — wherever you go, the test, the app, and the data follow you. Read the full story →
What makes DexaFit different?
DexaFit measures what most providers estimate. In one visit you get a clinical-grade DEXA body composition scan, a VO₂ Max test, and an RMR metabolism test — plus an app that turns every number into a plan you will act on. No guesswork, no formulas, no "trust the wearable."

What is a DEXA Scan, and what does it measure?
A DEXA (Dual-Energy X-ray Absorptiometry) scan is the clinical gold standard for measuring body composition. In about 8 minutes it gives you precise readings on fat mass, lean muscle, visceral fat, and bone density — broken down region by region at ±2% accuracy. Read more about the DEXA scan →
How does the DEXA scan compare to other body composition tools?
Smart scales and bioimpedance tools typically miss with an error margin of 10% or more, and they only return a single whole-body number. A DEXA scan measures composition at ±2% clinical accuracy and shows you the breakdown by region — legs, arms, trunk — so you can see exactly where you're gaining muscle or losing it.
Is the DEXA scan safe?
Yes. DEXA uses a very low dose of X-ray — typically less than the radiation you'd absorb on a transcontinental flight. The scan is non-invasive: you lie still on a comfortable padded table for ~8 minutes, fully clothed.
Will DexaFit show my bone density?
Yes. Bone Mineral Density (BMD) is part of every DEXA scan, with T-score and Z-score readings across spine, hip, and total body. Especially important if you're going through perimenopause, on GLP-1 therapy, or want a longevity baseline.
If you'd like to go deeper, a DexaStrong site-specific bone density scan (hips, L-spine, forearm, wrist) is the next level. Click here to learn more →
When should I start checking my bone density?
The best time to know is before bone loss starts, not after. Bone loss can begin in your 30s and 40s without symptoms, and accelerates around perimenopause and on GLP-1 therapy. A baseline now gives you something to compare against later, so you spot trouble years earlier than waiting for a fracture would.
Athletes, women approaching menopause, and anyone with a family history of osteoporosis benefit most from early baselines. Learn more at DexaStrong →
What's the difference between a DEXA scan and DexaStrong?
A DexaFit DEXA scan covers whole-body bone density alongside fat, lean muscle, and visceral fat. It's the right starting point for most people.
DexaStrong is a deeper, site-specific bone density scan covering hips, lumbar spine, forearm, and wrist. It's built for anyone tracking osteoporosis risk, fracture prevention, or response to bone-loading interventions. See DexaStrong →
What is VO₂ Max, and why is it important?
VO₂ Max is the maximum amount of oxygen your body uses during exercise — a direct measure of cardiovascular fitness. It's the single strongest predictor of all-cause mortality ever studied: a JAMA 2018 analysis of 122,007 patients (Mandsager et al.) found a 5× mortality gap between the least-fit and most-fit quintiles. Read more about VO₂ Max testing →
Who should get a VO₂ Max test?
Anyone serious about longevity, athletic performance, or building a real fitness baseline. Athletes use it to dial in training zones with precision a wearable misses. Adults over 35 use it as a longevity benchmark to track and improve year over year.
How accurate is DexaFit's VO₂ Max compared to my watch/wearable?
Your wearable estimates VO₂ Max from heart rate and pace — it can be off by 10-20%. DexaFit measures it directly with a mask that analyzes oxygen consumption during a graded exercise test. Same number. Real result.
What is an RMR Metabolism test?
RMR (Resting Metabolic Rate) is the number of calories your body burns at complete rest — the foundation of your daily energy needs. DexaFit measures it directly by analyzing the gases in your breath, not by plugging your stats into a generic equation. Read more about RMR testing →
Why is knowing my RMR important?
Generic calorie formulas miss by 20% or more — enough to derail any weight-loss, recovery, or performance plan built on top of them. Once you know your real RMR, every nutrition and training decision is grounded in what your body actually burns, not what an app guessed.

Can I share my DexaFit results with my doctor?
Yes. Your full report exports as a PDF from the DexaFit app and is built to be shared with your physician, trainer, dietitian, or longevity provider. The data is presented in clinical language your care team will recognize, so a conversation with your doctor starts from real numbers, not estimates.
How does DexaFit data complement traditional clinical research?
Peer-reviewed studies typically work with focused cohorts and tightly controlled conditions, which is where the foundational science comes from. DexaFit adds a different layer: real-world measurements across a wide range of ages, demographics, and goals, collected at clinical-grade accuracy. Used together, the two give a fuller picture, the published science explains the mechanism, the dataset shows how it plays out in practice. Explore the data →
